A week in the life of running a bridal shop

We get told lots & lots that we have the dream job… and to be completely honest, we feel like we do too! We LOVE what we do, we LOVE working together and most of all we LOVE being part your bridal journeys from the first appointment nerves, to finding the one, bridemaids’ appointments, alterations, all the way through to being sent photos of you in your dream dress on your wedding day!

But, in case you’ve ever wondered what we get up to behind the scenes when were not helping you in & out of different dresses, we thought we’d take you through a week of running Brides of Bakewell.

Monday

If you’re up to speed with our blogs & socials, you may already know that last weekend we hosted a Morilee trunk show weekend. This means the designer delivers us an additional 25 dresses from their latest collection into the shop for one weekend only, giving brides an EVEN BIGGER choice! The dresses are delivered on a Thursday & collected again on Tuesday morning. So, this Monday morning was spent packing 25 wedding dresses into 7 very large boxes ready for collection. We received some GORGEOUS dresses in this trunk show, so were a little sad to see some of them go. However, some will be back soon as part of our new season range & we will be having other trunk shows later in the new year.

After this we headed over to the stunning wedding venue that is Dunston Hall in Chesterfield as they were hosting a Christmas wedding showcase & we had a few dresses to place around the venue – let us know if you spotted any of our dresses! On that note – if you’re still on the hunt for a venue, you must go & visit Dunston Hall. The house & the grounds are beautiful, there’s accommodation for 23 people AND you get exclusive use of the venue – it really is a must see.

Tuesday

On Tuesdays & Wednesdays we only open if we have an appointment booked in, otherwise, this is our weekend! This week, we spent Tuesday morning at the shop waiting for our trunk show dresses to be collected & planning something exciting but a little bit scary… we’re going on the radio! We’re going to be on Spire radio @ 12pm on Tuesday 12th of December.

Tuesday evening was then our Christmas do! There’s just us two & Belinda our wonderful seamstress… so we let the boys come too. We went to the Broadfield in Sheffield for Christmas dinner & wine, it was a lovely evening!

Wednesday

Wednesday was another busy, but very exciting day. One of the best things about being a team of two now is that we can be in two places at the same time. Mum headed over to the shop for a bridesmaid collection appointment & a bridal appointment, while I headed over to Dunston Hall (again, yay) for a styled photoshoot. The photoshoot was a collaboration with some FAB girls in the industry, ’d recommend them all & keep an eye out for content from this shoot as its all too gorgeous not to share! We took the opportunity of this photo shoot to celebrate the launch of our new EveryBody EveryBride collection by Stella York. The full collection will be with us by the end of January & we are just so excited to have it available for you all to try.

Thursday

In the miserable rain on Thursday morning, we headed back over to Dunston for the final time (this week anyway), as their Christmas wedding showcase had ended & it was time to collect the dresses we’d had on display. We bagged them up & carried straight onto the shop for a day of bridal appointments. We also a received a HUGE delivery on Thursday which included 5 sample dresses from our new collections with Morilee & Stella York, and 4 orders for our lovely brides!

Friday

After Thursday’s deliveries, Friday was spent with the steamer so we could get our new samples out on the rails as quickly as possible for brides to be able to try on (always exciting when we get to see a new style on a bride for the very first time!). Also for steaming were the 4 new dresses for our brides to get them ready for collection!

Saturday & Sunday

Saturdays & Sundays are of course our busiest days for appointments. The ‘bread & butter’ of what we do, helping brides who have no idea what they want, work out exactly what they want and giving them an experience they will remember for ever! The bubbles are always flowing at the weekend, as well as the tea & coffee because its flipping cold outside! While I’d love to share with you exactly how gorgeous this weekend’s brides looked in their chosen dresses, its top secret & my lips are sealed! But congratulations to them all!

And just like that another week is done!

If you want any more information about anything mentioned in this blog, Dunston Hall, our new EveryBody EveryBride launch, our next trunk show, appointments, whatever it may be, feel free to drop us a message.
